Matt Townley of George Jenkins High and Sarah McCarthy of Crystal Lake Middle have been recognized by the Florida Council for the Social Studies as Outstanding Social Studies Teachers of the Year for the 2012-2013 school year. Rozy Scott, Secondary Social Studies and Teaching American History Grant Manager, nominated both candidates for the distinction. The award honors teachers that positively influence the way in which students view the world thanks in part to their tireless dedication to teaching the subject of social studies. Of the nomination, Ms. Scott says, “While we have many outstanding social studies teachers in our district who truly make a difference for our students, Mr. Townley and Ms. McCarthy are among our very finest. We are indeed fortunate to have them teaching our students.”
